Can you make your passport photo at home?
It depends on the country. Each passport office sets its own rules.
Yes, a home photo is fine
Take the photo yourself and CropPass crops it to the right size.
No, a photographer or the office takes it
These offices want a photo from a photographer, a booth or their own counter. Their pages explain where to go, and some list visa photos you can make here.
Belgium and Saudi Arabia depend on the local office, so ask first. Rules change, so check with the office you apply to before you print.

What size should my passport photo be?
It depends on the country you're applying in. In the United States, a passport photo must be 2×2 inches (51×51 mm). In the UK, it must be 35×45 mm. Most European countries follow the ICAO biometric standard of 35×45 mm. Our tool has each country's size rules built in.
Can I take my own passport photo at home?
In many countries, yes. Self-taken photos are allowed as long as they meet the technical requirements: a plain, light background, even lighting with no shadows on your face, and a neutral expression with your eyes open. Use this tool to crop and resize your photo to the correct size. Some countries don't accept them for passports. Canadian passport photos must be taken by a commercial photographer, French ones by an authorised photographer or photo booth, and German ones applied for in Germany by a certified photographer. In Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, Portugal, Brazil, Mexico, the Philippines, Thailand and several other countries the passport office takes the photo itself. CropPass marks these countries and explains what to do instead.
What background color does a passport photo need?
Most countries ask for a plain white or off-white background, and a few, such as the UK and New Zealand, also accept light grey. Each country page lists its exact colour. Busy backgrounds and shadows behind you are a common reason photos get rejected.
How do I print a passport photo at home?
Download a print sheet in your paper size (4×6 in, 5×7 in, A4, A5 or US Letter) and print it at 100% (actual size) on glossy or satin photo paper, using the highest quality setting on a color inkjet or laser printer. Cut the photos out along the marked borders. A photo lab can also print the sheet as a standard photo print. Check first that your authority accepts home prints: Canada, for example, does not.
Is this tool free to use?
The preview is free: crop, resize, the compliance check and a watermarked preview for every country, with no account. To download the full-quality files you buy a one-time pass. The Person pass ($7.99) covers 1 person and up to 3 source photos; the Family pass ($14.99) covers up to 4 people and 12 photos. Both last 30 days. Passes are non-refundable once bought, so check your photo with the free preview and the watermarked sample before you pay. Your photo is processed in your browser and never uploaded.
Is CropPass affiliated with any government?
No. CropPass is an independent service and is not affiliated with any government agency. Our presets follow each country's published photo rules. Always check the latest rules with the authority you're applying to; where available, country pages link to the authority's own requirements.
