How to make your Indian e-Visa photo

  1. Take or choose a photo. Face the camera in even light, against a wall that fits the background rule: plain light-coloured or white, no border or shadows. Upload it as a JPEG, PNG or HEIC file; it stays on your device.
  2. Line up the frame. CropPass crops to the square shape of the file and marks where your head goes (50–69% of the height). Drag and zoom until your head sits inside the guides.
  3. Download the file. In the download step, check that "Indian e-Visa (online upload)" is selected and click "Download Indian e-Visa (online upload)". CropPass encodes a 600×600 px JPEG (10 KB–1 MB) and shows its final size, ready to upload. The preview is free; downloading needs a pass.

Questions and answers

Which file does the e-Visa form accept?

A JPEG between 10 KB and 1 MB, with the height equal to the width.

What pixel size should I use?

The e-Visa pages do not give one. The regular Indian online visa photo guide allows 350×350 to 1000×1000 px, so CropPass exports 600×600 px, inside that range.

What should the photo show?

Your full head, from the top of the hair to the chin, against a plain light-coloured or white background, with no border and no shadows on your face or the background.

Is this the same as the OCI photo?

No. Both are square, but the OCI portal limits the file to 200 KB and asks for a background that is not white. The OCI card photo has its own page.
