Indian passport photo upload from the USA (630×810 px, up to 250 KB)

How to make your Indian passport photo upload from the USA (630×810 px)

  1. Take or choose a photo. Face the camera in even light, against a wall that fits the background rule: plain white, in colour. Upload it as a JPEG, PNG or HEIC file; it stays on your device.
  2. Line up the frame. CropPass crops to the 7:9 shape of the file and marks where your head goes (80–85% of the height). Drag and zoom until your head sits inside the guides.
  3. Download the file. In the download step, check that "Indian passport from the USA (online photo upload)" is selected and click "Download Indian passport from the USA (online photo upload)". CropPass encodes a 630×810 px JPEG (up to 250 KB) and shows its final size, ready to upload. The preview is free; downloading needs a pass.

Questions and answers

What size is the passport photo upload?

Exactly 630×810 pixels, in colour, on a white background, with the face taking up 80–85% of the photo. CropPass exports that exact size for this document.

Is there a file size limit?

The US missions do not state one. The Embassy of India in Bern gives a 250 KB maximum, so CropPass keeps the file under 250 KB to be safe.

Can the photo be edited?

No. The guideline asks for photos unaltered by computer software, so CropPass only crops and resizes. You still need two 35×45 mm prints for the VFS application as well.
