Why CropPass can't make this photo
CropPass works on a photo you took yourself, inside your browser. A Swedish passport or national ID card never uses a photo you bring: the passport handler at the police passport office photographs you at the counter and takes your fingerprints in the same visit. There is nothing for CropPass to make, so it does not offer this document.
What to do instead
- Book a visit to a police passport office. Bring your ID and, for a child, both guardians’ consent. The photo and fingerprints are taken during the visit, and children are photographed too.
- Living abroad? Go to an embassy with a biometric station. Swedish embassies and consulates that issue passports take the photo themselves, so do not bring one there either.
- Provisional passport at a mission without a biometric station. This is the one case that needs printed photos: 2 passport photos no older than 6 months. Ask the mission what it accepts before you print.
- Applying for a Schengen visa to visit Sweden? Visa applicants still hand in a printed 35×45 mm photo, which CropPass can make. Schengen visa photo →
What the photo must look like
The photographer or the office takes care of this, but these are the rules it follows:
| Format | Taken digitally by the police at the passport office |
|---|---|
| Background | Set by the police camera at the passport office |
| Digital editing | Not allowed |

Questions and answers
Can I bring my own photo to the Swedish passport office?
No. polisen.se explains that the passport handler takes your photo and two fingerprints at the visit, so a photo you bring is not used. The same goes for the national ID card.
Do Swedish embassies take the passport photo too?
Yes, where they have a biometric station. Only a provisional passport issued at a mission without one needs 2 printed photos, no older than 6 months.
Does the police photograph children for their passports?
Yes. Children and babies are photographed at the passport office like adults, so you do not need a baby passport photo for Sweden.
What can CropPass make for Sweden?
The 35×45 mm Schengen visa photo for people visiting Sweden, and the standard 35×45 mm print if a mission asks you for photos. Neither is used for a Swedish passport issued at a police office.
